What is ZenPlans? Digitised estate planning for law firms

Writer: Sophia StancerSophia Stancer

ZenPlans is transforming the way law firms manage their clients' estate plans. Stephen Moses, the founder of ZenPlans, recently joined the Law Firm Marketing Club Podcast to discuss how the platform simplifies estate planning, making it more secure, accessible, and organised. Through his own experience and insights, Moses shared how ZenPlans is designed to meet the modern demands of estate planning.

“We’re trying to make estate planning less daunting and more accessible,” Stephen Moses explains. The core idea behind ZenPlans is to simplify the entire estate planning process, especially in today’s digital world where clients’ lives and assets are increasingly online.

Estate planning has traditionally been a complex and often overwhelming process. Stephen recounts his personal experience when he helped his father review his will. “I was sitting there with my dad, looking at this will for the first time, and I thought, what exactly does an estate include?” It was this moment that inspired him to develop ZenPlans, a digital platform that organises not only financial assets but also personal, digital, and non-financial assets.

ZenPlans addresses one of the key challenges in modern estate planning: managing digital assets. “What about social media accounts, cloud storage, and all those non-financial assets that people often overlook?” asks Moses. With so much of our lives now online, ZenPlans allows clients to easily track and manage both their physical and digital assets in one secure platform.

Moses emphasises the importance of having everything in one place: “It’s about having all your assets, financial and digital, organised and accessible when needed.” The platform ensures that clients’ estate plans are not only secure but also comprehensive.

One of the biggest challenges Moses points out is the transactional nature of the relationship between a solicitor and their client. “We learned that the relationship with a private client solicitor... is in its nature transactional. You come, you see your solicitor, do your will, and then maybe you never see them again,” says Moses.

ZenPlans changes this dynamic by offering law firms a way to maintain ongoing communication with clients. The platform sends automated reminders for clients to review and update their estate plans. “Estate planning shouldn’t be a one-off thing. Clients need continuous support.”

Another key feature of ZenPlans is its ability to involve family members in the estate planning process. “If we’d had access to something like ZenPlans, the whole process would have been so much easier for everyone involved,” says podcast host Sophia Stancer, reflecting on her own experience. ZenPlans allows clients to share their plans with family members while they’re still around, ensuring that everyone is on the same page. This makes the transition smoother when the time comes.

In summary, ZenPlans is revolutionising estate planning by making it easier, more organised, and more secure for clients and law firms alike.
